1. If I can’t make it over there, then I concur that Carlos Santana making it over there instead is the next best thing.

Seriously, the legend indeed. I have never had the pleasure of seeing Carlos Santana LIVE in concert. That is certainly someone whom I would like to get to see and hear LIVE.

2. Ohhh, so I see there on the map that Maputo is a city in South Africa. For years I’ve had this Smooth Jazz song “Maputo” by Bob James & David Sanborn on a cassette. I had no idea what that was.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve heard it … apparently so long that I’ve even forgotten how it goes. I’ll have to find the cassette so as to remind me how it goes. I’m sure you can find a YouTube of it. With it being Bob James & David Sanborn, it’s got to be good.

3. We’ll be waiting for a pic of you and Carlos Santana, Aadil.
While you’re there, ask him if he uses Linux or Windows.

4. Maputo is the Capitol of Moçambique! 😛
While Moçambique is a SADC country, it’s not South Africa. (technically, The Republic of South Africa)
They speak Portuguese in Moçambique! 😀
Unfortunately, neither the JHB nor the Cape Town venues are convenient for me. Kzn is often left out of these music concerts on the assumption that nobody in Kzn appreciates good music! :irked:

5. I saw Carlos Santana sometime in the 90s and I was blown away by the performance. 😀 He also had a great jam with Jeff beck as guest. 😮

My favorite Santana song is Europa. Love those long feedback tones! 😀

6. Probably the best-brainstormed, best-executed Mother of all Feedbacks is the segue from Black Magic Woman to Oye Como Va.

7. I’ve Got a Gold Dust Woman
I’ve Got a Gold Dust Woman
Yes I’ve got a Gold Dust Woman
She’s got me so blind I can’t see.
But, she’s a Gold Dust Woman
Who thinks that short people got no reason
Short people got no reason to live.

Wooooooo! That got messy really quickly.
So trust me, Annette. Black Magic Woman is by Carlos Santana.

8. I was almost POSITIVE Fleetwood Mac sang Black Magic Woman, so I googled it. My dad listened to Fleetwood Mac when I was growing up and I remember hearing this song.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Magic_Woman “Black Magic Woman” is a song written by Peter Green that first appeared as a Fleetwood Mac single in various countries in 1968, subsequently appearing on the 1969 Fleetwood Mac compilation albums English Rose (US) and The Pious Bird of Good Omen (UK), as well as Vintage Years. In 1970, it became a classic hit by Santana, as sung by Gregg Rolie, reaching No. 4 in the U.S. and Canadian charts, after appearing on their Abraxas album, becoming more closely associated with Santana than Fleetwood Mac.

9. As you know, I of course can’t listen to any YouTubes with my Dial Up. But, now I’m REALLY curious as to what this Fleetwood Mac version of Black Magic Woman sounds like. The next time I’m over at my sister’s house I’ll check it out on her High Speed Internet.

Wooooooo! So I learned this arcane fact right here on Vivaldi.
Good thing I didn’t bet $1,000.00 that Santana was undeniably the original Artist of Black Magic Woman.

Since you have the luxury of being able to listen to both versions right now, Annette, what do YOU think? Which one do you like better?

10. Now I do know that Santana’s other mega Hit — Oye Como Va is NOT a Santana original. That one is a Tito Puente original.

11. The late ’60s, when everyone did everyone else’s songs … just how many artists did a version of “Proud Mary” back then?

12. I know all local bands did a version of Proud Mary. But, as far as actual big name Artists doing a cover version of Proud Mary? I’m only aware of Tina Turner’s cover version of Proud Mary.

13. Ssss SO … are we sure Fleetwood Mac didn’t play Proud Mary first? You don’t have another surprise up your sleeve, do you, Annette?

14. As many recordings as Carlos Santana must have, I actually only have 3 of his albums / cassettes:
Abraxas … Santana III … Marathon

Listening to Black Magic Woman as I type this. Well, actually it’s now on to Gypsy Queen, getting ready to soon segue into Oye Como Va.
